DVACT-PAI has built a solid reputation for providing high quality assessments and bringing much needed expertise to the family court arena. The combination of professionalism, high standards and specialist knowledge is reflected in the publication of the only UK Register for Expert Domestic Abuse Risk Assessors.
Domestic abuse is a specialised area to which models and theories from other disciplines do not readily apply. DVACT-PAI ensures that all experts registered to deliver Domestic Abuse Risk Assessments have proven in-depth experience of direct work in the field with quality assurance provided by ongoing supervision and training.
Professional Standards
DVACT-PAI is pleased to announce that its Register of Expert Domestic Abuse Risk Assessors has successfully met the crucial first stage of the Accredited Registers programme, administered by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) for Health and Social Care.
This achievement marks a pivotal step in our commitment to public safety and professional excellence. Meeting Standard One indicates that our register holds a clear public interest and manages risks effectively to ensure the safety of service users.
Children affected by domestic abuse suffer multiple negative health outcomes. They deserve domestic abuse assessments by experts who are fully qualified and adhere to the highest standards. Clear, accurate assessment contributes to key child protection decisions and benefits not only families and children but also increasingly busy professionals in children’s services and the family courts as well as public finances.
This is a significant step toward full accreditation, and we are now working closely with the PSA on the next stages of the accreditation process.

DVACT-PAI sets out core competencies and qualifications for domestic abuse experts and maintains a register of experts who meet these standards as well as upholding professional and ethical guidelines.
The purpose of the register is to:

Ensure that children are adequately safeguarded by the assessments provided

Promote and maintain proper professional standards and conduct for those delivering domestic abuse risk assessments

Protect the integrity of domestic abuse risk assessment within the family courts and with local authorities

Promote and maintain public confidence in the effectiveness and reliability of domestic abuse risk assessments.

To remain on our register experts must:

Adhere to our Ethical Framework and Professional Conduct Procedure (available below)

Attend regular relevant training

Demonstrate a clear, enhanced DBS check

Attend clinical supervision on every case

Submit assessment reports for quality standards

Maintain professional standards of competence and behaviour
